  4. image of a scene focused on the
  5. retina resembles that focused
  6. on the film in a camera or, for
  7. that matter, a faithful
  8. rendering of the scene by an
  9. artist. The eye has a lens just as
  10. a camera does, and as in a
  11. camera, the lens changes its
  12. focus. The eye has an aperture
  13. (the pupillary opening) that
  14. varies in diameter to admit
  15. more or less light, as does a
  16. camera. The image formed on
  17. the retina is upside down and
  18. reversed left to right, just as is
  19. the image that appears on
  20. photographic film.
